Mock interview practice for graduates
Tell Pip the role. It asks one question, marks your answer out of five, shows a stronger version and moves on, the way a good careers adviser would.
How a round works
- Pick the role and the country. The questions change with both. A UK audit scheme and an Australian engineering program do not sound the same.
- Pip asks one question. Answer as you would in the room. Rough is fine.
- You get a mark out of five. Pip says what worked, what was missing and which part the interviewer would follow up on.
- You see a stronger version. It is built only from what you said. If a detail is missing, Pip asks for it.
- Try again or move on. Saying the answer a second time is where most of the improvement happens.
What Pip marks you on
- Did you answer the question that was asked?
- Is it clear what you did, as opposed to what the team did?
- Is there a result, ideally with a number?
- Would a stranger follow it the first time?
- Is it short enough to say in about two minutes?
Types of graduate interview
Competency or behavioural. "Tell me about a time when…". You need a true example, told in order. Use the STAR method.
Strengths-based. "What do you enjoy?" and "What comes easily to you?". There is less to prepare and more to reflect on, and interviewers listen for energy as much as content.
Motivation. "Why this role? Why us?". Generic praise fails here. Pick two things that are true of this employer and few others.
Commercial awareness. What is going on in the sector, how the employer makes money and what might worry its clients.
Video. Recorded answers with a timer and no human reaction. The questions are the same, but the pressure is different. Our guides cover how to prepare.
Common questions, by type
Want the question list first? We keep it on the interview questions page, with a button to practise each one.
Before you start
How long does a mock interview take?
About 15 minutes for five questions if you type, less if you talk your answers through first. You can stop after any question.
Can I practise out loud?
Yes, and you should. Say your answer aloud, then type the short version. The clock under the answer box shows how long a typed answer would take to say.
Which interview types can Pip run?
Competency or behavioural, strengths-based, motivation, commercial awareness and technical basics for your field. Tell Pip which you want, or let it mix them.
Pip can get things wrong. Check anything that matters with the employer. Leave your name and phone number out of what you paste. How Pip works · Privacy
