Graduate CV and resume checker, line by line
Paste a section and Pip works through it one line at a time: what a recruiter would skim past, what is missing and how to say it shorter. It only uses what you actually did.
What a line edit looks like
BeforeWorked as part of a team on a marketing project.
AfterWrote the social plan for a four-person student project; the client used two of our three campaign ideas.
BeforeStrong communication skills.
AfterPresented our findings to 60 people at the department showcase and took questions.
BeforeDuties included stock control and cash handling.
AfterCounted and reconciled the till at close, four nights a week, for two years.
These are made-up examples. If Pip does not know a number, it asks you. It will not make one up, because you would have to defend it in an interview.
UK CV or Australian resume?
| UK graduate CV | Australian graduate resume | |
|---|---|---|
| Usual length | Two pages | Two to three pages |
| Photo | Leave it out | Leave it out |
| Date of birth | Leave it out | Leave it out |
| Referees | "Available on request" is fine | Names often listed, with their permission |
| Grades | Degree result or predicted class, A levels if strong | WAM or GPA if it helps, course and year |
These are common conventions. If an employer's instructions differ, follow them.
The graduate CV in order
- Contact line. Name, city, phone, email, LinkedIn if yours is finished.
- Education. It goes first because it is your strongest recent thing. Add a line on relevant modules or a dissertation.
- Experience. Paid, voluntary, societies. Use action verbs and numbers. Part-time jobs count.
- Projects or achievements. Useful if your experience is thin.
- Skills. Things you can show, such as software and languages, with a level.
No experience yet?
Everyone starts here. Group projects, a dissertation, society roles, volunteering, caring for family, a Saturday job: each one shows you turning up, working with people and getting something done. Pip can help you turn them into lines worth reading.
Cover letters
Three short paragraphs do the job: why this role, why you, why this employer. Paste one in and Pip will flag every sentence that could have been sent to anyone.
Questions
Does Pip give my CV a score?
No. An automatic score would not tell you much, and it would pretend to know how a recruiter reads. Pip goes through your lines one at a time and says what is weak and why.
Does it beat applicant tracking software?
Nobody outside an employer can see how its system is set up, so be wary of anyone who says otherwise. Plain formatting and the words from the job advert are sensible, and Pip can help with the wording.
Can it check a cover letter?
Yes. Paste a paragraph at a time and say which job it is for. Pip will flag anything that could be sent to any employer.
What should I leave out when pasting?
Your name, phone number, email and address. Pip does not need them, and messages go to an AI model provider. See the privacy page.
Pip can get things wrong. Check anything that matters with the employer. Leave your name and phone number out of what you paste. How Pip works · Privacy
